It seems counter intuitive to buy new clothes while attempting to purge my closet and down size, but I've been on the hunt for a new black pencil skirt for a really long time. I love pencil skirts, but they're hard for me. My waist is much smaller than my hips, butt and thighs. In fact, I have two pencil skirts in my closet that were online purchases that I can't wear until I get them altered.
When I saw this skirt at Macy's, I knew I had to try it on. I was in the plus size section, so I grabbed the 1X and I was really disappointed when it was too big. As some one who is in between sizing systems, I love it when stores carry the same pieces in plus sizes and straight sizes. I was stoked to find an XL on the other side of the store. Perfect fit! The stretchy fabric is forgiving of my curves, but helps it maintain its shape at the waist.
Outfit:
Tank: thrifted
Cardigan: Target
Pencil skirt: Alfani from Macy's- Standard Size, Plus Size available in store.
Leopard and coral are just too great together.
Do you have any luck with pencil skirts?
New Your and company has a nice line of stretchy pencil skirts that work well with my pear shaped figure!
ReplyDeleteOops...New YORK..!
DeleteI'll have to check their store locator to see if they have a store near Boston. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteYou look so pretty! Love the new pencil skirt. Leopard is basically a neutral, so it looks great with everything, especially coral! :)

I agree. Leopard and polka dots are basically neutrals:)
DeleteI LOVE your leopard blouse - so cute!

It was one of those rare lucky finds. So glad I decided to try it on even though it looked like a crop top.
DeleteI understand your dilemma with pencil skirts! I, too, have a much smaller waist than hips/butt. Since black pencil skirts are so prevalent, I shop for them at consignment and thrift stores. Much cheaper, too! ;-) This one looks nice on you.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to have any luck with thrifting pencil skirts. It doesn't stop me from looking though!
DeleteI think as long as you're buying something that you've needed (wanted?) it's fine when you're purging your closet. Just resist the impulse buys, I think. And this skirt was a great buy - you look super!
ReplyDeleteThat's how I justified it! It's a basic that I will probably wear 3-4 times a month.
DeleteYour new pencil skirt looks so good on you! I love how you paired it with the leopard and pop of red. You look so so chic!

Thanks!
DeleteI think you look great in this pencil skirt! And no, I don't have a single pencil skirt, I just can't walk in them, I always feel squeezed and forced in them...

This pencil skirt fits you perfectly! I love it paired with the leopard.

Pencil skirts can have such a tricky fit, but when they do work, they look good! ^_^ I really like the combo of the coral and the leopard print. I hadn't thought of that combo before, it looks really good together and not as vampy as red and leopard does.
ReplyDeleteLoving your outside photos and congrats on your bf moving in, how fun and exciting!
Im totally copying this look from you! I LOVE pencil skirts especially ponte & jersey knit. I recently bought a jersey knit striped pencil skirt from Old Navy & it made me think of you & Katie!
ReplyDeleteLove love pencils skirts! We've discussed being in between sizes and it's frustrations before so I won't harp on that- but I do appreciate places who carry the same thing in all sizes! Your outfit looks great!
ReplyDeleteI actually find that I normally do quite a bit of buying as I'm purging my closet. Going through everything helps me evaluate what I need to get rid of, to be sure, but also what I'm lacking.
ReplyDeleteLove your leopard top!

That's a great way of looking at it. By purging I figured out I need more seasonless work basics.
DeleteCan I just saw that you are absolutely adorable! This outfit on you is gorgeous! I don't own pencil skirts (although I love the look) because I have VERY big hips/butt/stomach and I always worry the look will make them bigger. Although I've been getting braver with style adventures lately and think it might be time to rock the pencil skirt! I'll let you know how it goes. :)
ReplyDeleteDo it!
DeleteLOVING this blouse. I have given up on pencil skirts because my hips are bigger than my waist and skirts very rarely fit in both places. Solution = dresses.
