It's no secret I love polka dots. I have three polka dot dresses in my closet (1, 2, 3) and I've been trying REALLY hard not to buy any more, so I was delighted to see this dress on Gwynnie Bee! Borrow a work appropriate polka dot dress whenever I want? Yes please! And the color is divine. It reads as navy in photos, but it's more of a really deep plum color in person. I kind of want to wear it again before I send it back, but there are so many other pieces I want to try!

I wore this dress to work and also to a panel discussion on Boston Fashion hosted by Boston Globe. The discussion "Boston Fashion is Smart" was co-moderated by Jay Calderin of Boston Fashion Week and Chris Muther, a fashion reporter for the Boston Globe and featured some really cool panelists. The discussion focused on how fashion in Boston is evolving and coming into its own.
While a lot of the discussion was a little too high fashion oriented for my taste- one point of discussion really resonated with me. The features that Boston is often criticized for are actually its strengths. Being a "college town" actually gives Boston its character- it is the ever changing population of students and faculty that make Boston a global city!
Love that dress! The polka dots are so cute and the plum color is beautiful on you :) I've heard great things about Gwynnie Bee from Katie at Hems for Her - I love the idea of borrowing clothing!

Right?! I live in a pretty student heavy area and I get so much inspiration from what the more artsy students in my neighborhood are wearing. Acid wash cut offs over tights may not be my taste, but I love seeing it!
DeleteOh Boston. I agree with you its one of our strengths. You have lived all over, so you know... Girls in other cities to go to a sports bar dress up like its prom. I was so shocked how casual Boston is compared to the rest of the country. BUT I like our casual feel! We also have a lot of engineering/manufacturing which I think makes NE/Boston more casual. Product Design firms and Manufacturing firms tend to lend themselves as more casual. Phew. That's a ramble! OH and I am going to be a really bad influence here and say you NEED to go buy that dress... it looks stunning on you!

ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Gwynnie Bee, is it sort of like Rent the Runway? You've had a couple of really cute things through them so far, this dress looks amazing on you. (The draping is really nice.) It sounds like it was a really fun panel to go listen too, I don't really get why Boston would be considered not stylish. (Way more so that here, I think Anchorage made Least Stylish City in the US and Fairbanks is so much more frightening than Anchorage.) I always think of college students as being fairly stylish, when they're not in their pjs.
I absolutely love anything with polka dots so this dress is great! The dress highlights your lovely curves!
